WHISTLER
SATURDAY JUNE 18, 2022:
RIDE EVERYTHING

From winding gravel switchbacks to flowing loamy descents framed by unreal mountain scenery (and a ton of mud just waiting to be sprayed), Whistler serves it up on a dusty platter.

Categories, info

Riders will take to the course as individuals. We'll become a team later over beers.

As a test event in 2022, we've got 2 distances lined up for you:

One: "Longer"; 60km, approx 3 hours for the average fast person (TRAILFORKS MAP)
Two: "Shorter"; 46km, approx 2.5 hours for the average rider (TRAILFORKS MAP)

Course

Expect a flurry steep punches and tight switchbacks in between all the times you're shouting at the trees with glee. You'll know you're in the zone when they start yelling back.

Rest stops

Both distances will have 2 rest stops (it's the same one visited twice). We'll have hydration and nutrition from Skratch Labs, water, and assorted fun things to eat like baked goods and fruit. Yum.

2022 RESULTS!

The People and the Land Are One

XFONDO is committed to telling the stories of the land and cultures on which you ride. The Whistler event takes place on Líl̓wat traditional territory:

“We are the Líl̓wat Nation, an Interior Salish people. We live in a stunning and dramatic landscape with a rich biodiversity — a mysterious place of towering mountains, ice fields, alpine meadows, white-water rivers, and braided river valleys that run to a milky colour due to the silt and clay deposited by glacial melt. Líl̓wat is a separate and distinct nation with cultural and kinship ties to the St̓át̓y̓emc."

Lil'wat Nation Lil'wat Nation

"Our language is called Ucwalmícwts.  Our community is located 7km east of Pemberton, a two-and-a-half hour drive north of Vancouver on the Sea-to-Sky Highway. Our 797,131 ha traditional territory is about one-quarter of the size of Vancouver Island. Our territory extends south to Rubble Creek, north to Gates Lake, east to the Upper Stein Valley and west to the coastal inlets (Toba Inlet) of the Pacific Ocean.

"Our geography — between two formidable mountain ranges — ensured our important role in the early regional economy. We were traders. For centuries, we bartered and exchanged all manner of goods with many other First Nations, and later with non-aboriginal fur traders, miners and settlers. Skilled fishers and hunters, we are closely tied to our land."

— From the Líl̓wat Fact Book published in 2007 by the Líl̓wat Nation.

Thanks DMX for that line.

We're gonna give you two guarantees. First off, riding XFONDO Whistler will cause your adrenaline to be emphatically pumping.

Secondly, you'll have a hard time trying to peel that smile off your face back at base camp. Your buddies? They'll be experiencing the same symptoms.
